Wash the scalp, not the lengths
Work the lather in with your fingertips at the scalp. The lengths get cleaned by the water running through on the rinse — scrubbing them is what causes roughness.
Give it a minute
Rinsing straight away gives the actives no contact time. A minute while you do something else is enough.
Two washes only when needed
A second wash is for heavy product build-up or oil, not a default. Most hair is clean after one.

Seventeen shampoos, and the useful way to narrow them down is the surfactant.
Sulfate-free (6). Charcoal Detox, Hair Loss, Sulfate Free Biotin, Quinoa Protein, Supreme Repair and Quinoa & Hemp are built on sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate with coco-glucoside. Worth choosing if you have a keratin treatment, colour you want to hold, or a scalp that reacts.
Sulfate-based (11). Milk Therapy, Keratin, Argan, Collagen, Biotin, Milk Keratin, Purple and the four Metamorfose shampoos use sodium laureth sulfate. They clean harder, which is what you want on product build-up or oil.

Frequently asked questions
How often should I wash my hair?
There is no single right answer — it depends on scalp oil, hair type and what you put on it. Two to four times a week suits most people. Daily washing is fine with a mild shampoo; what dries hair out is usually the water temperature and the clarifying shampoos, not frequency itself.
Are sulfates bad for hair?
Not inherently — they are cleansers, and they clean well. They are the part of a shampoo most associated with colour fading, so if you colour your hair the sulfate-free options are the sensible choice. On uncoloured hair it is a preference.
Can I use a clarifying shampoo every week?
Once every week or two at most. It is a reset wash for build-up and oil; used more often it strips the lengths and you end up needing more conditioner to compensate.
Does purple shampoo replace my normal one?
No — it replaces one or two washes a week. Used every day it can leave a visible violet cast on very light blonde. The rest of the week, use your normal shampoo.
