A serum is the last thing you apply. On wet hair it dilutes and you use twice as much for half the effect.
Two or three drops, warmed
Rub them between your palms first. Applied straight from the bottle to one spot, you get a greasy patch and dry hair everywhere else.
Ends first, roots never
Start at the ends, then whatever is left on the mid-lengths. Nothing at the roots — that is where greasiness shows first.

These serums do the opposite: they smooth the cuticle flat and leave a light barrier so ambient moisture stays outside.
The Milk Therapy serum is the lighter of the two and works on fine to medium hair; the argan orange serum carries more weight for coarse or very dry lengths. Both work on damp hair before drying, and on dry hair afterwards for touch-ups. Use two or three drops on the lengths and ends only — frizz starts at the mid-lengths, and serum at the roots just looks greasy.
