Moisturizing Shampoos

For dryness

Moisturizing shampoo.
The wash decides how much the rest of the routine can do.

This is the step people skip when they are trying to fix dry hair, and it is the one that undoes everything else. A shampoo that strips the hair leaves the mask and the leave-in trying to replace what the wash just removed. Pick the base that matches your hair and the other steps get easier.

Same job, six different bases

These five large bottles contain sodium laureth sulfate. If you colour your hair and retention matters, the sulfate-free collection is the better starting point.

Washing dry hair without drying it further

1

Turn the water down

Hot water strips oils faster than any shampoo in this range puts them back. Lukewarm, with a cooler rinse at the end.

2

One wash, not two

A second lather is for build-up and oil. On dry hair it is simply a second stripping.

3

Scalp only

Lather at the roots with your fingertips; the lengths get cleaned by the water running through them. Scrubbing dry ends is what makes them rougher.

Not quite what you needed?

About this collection

A shampoo that leaves hair squeaky has stripped it. That squeak is the sound of bare cuticle with no protective oil left, and it is why dry hair often feels worse right after washing. The shampoos here clean with gentler surfactant systems and add conditioning agents back in the same step — argan, collagen, biotin and milk protein formulas that leave hair soft rather than stripped.

Match the active to the hair. Milk protein and argan suit dry, coarse or color-treated hair. Collagen adds body to hair that is dry but also limp. Biotin is the choice for fine, fragile strands. Whichever you pick, lather twice only when hair is genuinely dirty — the second wash is where most stripping happens.

Frequently asked questions

Can a shampoo actually moisturise hair?

Only partly, and it is worth being honest about it. A shampoo is a cleanser with a minute or two of contact time before it goes down the drain. What a moisturising shampoo really does is clean without stripping, so the conditioner and mask have something to work with. The moisture itself comes from the steps after it.

How often should I wash dry hair?

Two to three times a week suits most dry hair, but frequency matters less than temperature and what you use. Washing rarely with hot water and a stripping shampoo is worse than washing often with a mild one.

Do these shampoos contain sulfates?

Five of the six contain sodium laureth sulfate; the Metamorfose Moist Boost contains both laureth and lauryl sulfate. That is fine for most hair. If you colour your hair, look at the sulfate-free collection instead.

Why is my hair still dry after switching shampoo?

Usually because the shampoo was not the main cause. Heat styling without protection, hot water and skipping the weekly mask all matter more. Change one thing at a time and give it a few weeks.
