Using protein without overdoing it
Protein is the one area of hair care where more is genuinely not better.
Once or twice a week, not every wash
Hair loaded with protein and short of moisture becomes rigid and brittle in its own way — the same symptoms, the opposite cause.
Squeeze the water out first
A mask on dripping hair is diluted before it starts. Wring it out, apply mid-length to ends, follow the time on the pack.
Watch for straw
If hair starts feeling stiff and snapping more after a few weeks, cut the protein back and use a moisturising mask instead.

Should I use a keratin mask if my hair is dry but not damaged?
Probably not. Dry hair is short of moisture and still stretches and recovers; protein aimed at rebuilding structure can make it feel stiffer rather than softer. A moisturising mask is the better fit.
Can I use a keratin mask on coloured hair?
Yes. Colouring and bleaching are exactly the kind of processing that costs hair structure, so protein is often what it needs. Keep to once or twice a week and watch how the hair responds.
