Argan Oil Hair Masks

For coarse, thirsty hair

Argan oil hair masks.
The weekly step for hair that drinks everything.

Argan is the richest mask base in the range, which makes it the one for coarse, curly or very dry hair — the hair that feels rough again an hour after conditioning. On fine hair it will weigh things down, and the collagen mask is the better fit there.

Argan Hair Mask$34.95 · 16.90 fl oz

Argan oil with glycerin. Once or twice a week, mid-length to ends, where coarse hair takes the most of the damage.

Argan Hair Care Set$64.95 · shampoo, mask, leave-in

The mask with the matching shampoo and leave-in. On coarse hair the individual steps rarely do much alone, which is why the set is the more honest recommendation here.

Using a rich mask properly

1

Squeeze the water out first

A rich mask applied to dripping hair is diluted before it starts working.

2

Mid-length to ends

The ends are the oldest hair and need it most. At the roots a mask this rich will flatten everything.

3

Rinse longer than feels necessary

Under-rinsed mask is the usual reason hair feels coated rather than conditioned the next day.

About this collection

Argan oil has an unusually high share of oleic and linoleic acids, which is what lets it soften coarse hair without simply sitting on the surface. In a mask format it does two things at once: the conditioning base opens the cuticle enough for moisture to get in, and the oil seals it as the mask rinses out.

This suits dry, coarse and color-treated hair in particular. Color fades fastest from hair that is porous, and a mask that closes the cuticle keeps tone true for longer as well as improving shine. Use weekly on the lengths, avoiding the roots — argan is rich enough to weigh down hair if it is applied too close to the scalp.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I use an argan mask?

Once or twice a week is enough for most coarse hair. Hair takes up what it will take up in the minutes the mask is on; using it every wash mostly produces hair that feels coated rather than conditioned.

Will an argan mask weigh my hair down?

On coarse, curly or very dry hair, no — that is what it is built for. On fine hair, yes, it is likely to. The collagen mask is the better fit there.

Can I leave an argan mask on overnight?

There is no benefit. Follow the time on the pack; after that the hair is not absorbing more, it is just sitting there.

Do I still need conditioner if I use a mask?

In the wash where you use the mask, no — it replaces the conditioner that time. On the other washes of the week, use your normal conditioner.
